Muay Thai

Also referred to as the 'art of eight limbs', Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand and a source of pride for the country. Fights are held nightly in arenas across Bangkok, with fighters looking to ascend their status within the sport. Going to one of these events is about more than watching what's happening inside the ring, it's about immersing yourself in the uniquely Thai atmosphere of dimly lit venues.

Almost nothing can describe the feeling of listening to the crowd chant 'ตี' (díi) as fighters exchange blows, the collective roar building with each strike. The air fills with whispers of wagers being placed, creating an electric environment. These photographs aim to document not only the athletic poetry of the fighters, but also the cultural theater that surrounds them.
